I like contests. I haven't won a contest since I was little and the competition wasn't so stiff, but I don't mind. If the competition's stiff, it means that there are a lot of other talented people, and it makes me happy that they get recognized for it. I just entered my science fiction story PROJECT MINERVA into the Freeditorial.com long-short story contest. Every time someone downloads my story for free, I get a higher chance of winning. (Winning is also based on the quality of my story, not just its popularity). So that's delightful news for the fiction lovers out there! Free story! Wahoo! |
Jennifer belongs to the thirteenth generation created by Integrated Humanity International. When one of the other girls in the program dies under mysterious circumstances, Jennifer begins receiving the dead girl's memories, one by one. These memories reveal important truths and force Jennifer to make a difficult choice.
Here's the promo video that I filmed yesterday:
"Ugh! My hair was messy. I stumbled over my words. I look cheesy. I sound cheesy. The background wasn't right. The lighting was wrong..."
For some reason, when I get in front of that unblinking lens, my words evaporate and I feel super awkward. But something happened halfway through filming this promo. I decided that I didn't care. I was going to stop thinking about how I looked, how I sounded, and whether I was a failure or a success. I was just going to say what I had to say. The result? I was my natural, goofy self; I had fun; and I only had to do a single take for several parts of the spiel. Not bad. I might actually do it again!
And that's why I'm sharing the blooper reel--because I need to remember that it's not about the mistakes. It's about the experience.
