about author from scratch |
This is the story of how I became a writer, warts and all. Not that I'm a writer with warts. But my story has some warts, as you'll soon learn.
When I published my first book in May 2013, I wasn't ready for the massive learning curve that occurred afterward as I planned out my next project. Suddenly, I was plunged into a world of possibilities. Design my own cover? Market my book on social media? Self-publishing versus traditional publishing? Design my own author website? Build an e-mail list from nothing? It was overwhelming. I wish I had kept a journal of all the things I learned and the resources I had discovered during that time. I forget how far I've come in such a short time, and how much I've grown personally and professionally. I've made a lot of stupid mistakes and had a disproportionately few lucky breaks, but I'm having the time of my life, and I absolutely love to learn, so who cares? This site is that journal and that collection of resources. If nobody reads about my latest discoveries and adventures, whatever. I'll at least remember where I came from and all I've learned. If you read it and find it useful, super! I like knowing I'm not the only over-achiever who's attempted to be an "author from scratch." So here it is: the failures and fun of an "author from scratch." Enjoy! |
about me |
I am the author of several speculative fiction books, including Wings Beneath Water, which earned a Silver Honorable Mention in the 2015 L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future contest and is now available in its expanded form. I also write inspirational non-fiction for Christian women. As opposite as they may seem, I find that the two types of writing complement each other like chocolate and peppermint (my favorite combination!).
Stories from my life told fantasy-style, reviews of fascinating science fiction and fantasy books, updates on my new and upcoming releases, and more! Encouragement, resources, and inspiration for Christian women, with specific posts for single women, married women, and both together. |
Let's see, what else?
So there you are: my life in five succinct bullet-points. But if you want to connect further, you can always contact me. |
